Dr. C. L. Bass

Director/Arranger, Schola Lite

Dr. C. L. Bass, a native Texan, sings with Schola Cantorum of Texas and serves as director and arranger for Schola Lite, which performs popular songs and show tunes. Dr. Bass served as Chairman of Music Theory and Composition at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, for 24 years prior to his retirement in 2001.

Prior to that assignment, he served as Professor of Music and Composition for twelve years at Oklahoma Baptist University, and taught music in high schools in Syracuse, Kansas, and Borger, Texas.  

Dr. Bass received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Oklahoma Baptist University,
a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Music Theory from the University of North Texas.

He is active as a singer, composer/arranger, accompanist and orchestrator. His more than 200 published works include three cantatas and a book on music sight-reading. He has written three dramatic works based on biblical themes. Schola fans also know him for his meticulously researched and written program notes for all Schola concerts.

Dr. Bass and his wife, Charlene, have three children and two grandchildren.
